With the discovery of gold and the increasing development of mines in the outer reaches of the mountains came the imperative demand for pathways of travel. For decades, mountain trails were the only routes of travel throughout California’s richest gold territory, Nevada and Sierra Counties.

Rafting and Kayaking
In spring when the waters of the North Yuba River are up, Downieville is a popular white water destination. With runs ranging from levels 2 to 5, there is something for everyone.  There are numerous rafting companies in the area- reservations can be made at the front desk.

Fishing
There are many lakes, rivers and streams in the area that offer glorious opportunities!

C & R Guide Fishing

Come fish the beautiful High Sierras in and around the Truckee-LakeTahoe region. C & R Guide Service offers guided fly-fishing excursions to the North Fork Yuba River, Truckee River, and The Feather River Country for wild rainbows, browns, and brook trout. For those of you who are small stream and creek anglers, the area contains numerous "Secret Spots" hosting unselective, but wary brooks, browns, and rainbows. We also guide on the Lower Yuba for steelhead and shad.
